A massive gray shape moved silently through the brush, entering a long tunnel. A smaller brown she-cat followed the large tom, disappearing into the darkness. Both cats swiftly moved through the tunnel, until they reached a moonlit stone that lit the whole cavern up. The brown she-cat flicked her tail and the tom touched his nose to the stone. A shiver ran through his body and he stopped moving, turning nearly stone cold. The she-cat sat on the other side of the stone and touched her nose to the stone, turning still as the tom.
The tom sat in the middle of a bright and starry clearing, his pelt nearly silver among the many shining pelts. The brown pelted she-cat sat beside him.
"Welcome, Heavyfoot. Are you ready to receive your nine lives?" The Starclan cats seemed to call in chorus to the massive tom.
Heavyfoot gazed at the cats with a nod, though he wasn't sure who some of the cats were, "Yes, I’m ready."
A black and brown tom stepped forward, his deep yellow eyes shimmering with pride, Hawktalon, Heavyfoot's father. " With this life I give you courage, use it well to lead your clan into battles and to be able to hunt for your clan in even the harshest of leafbares. " A deep bolt of pain ran through him and shock gripped him as he bit his tongue, Heavyfoot wasn't expecting such pain through him. First life down, eight to go.
A fluffy grey she-cat took Hawktalon's place, Wolftail, Heavyfoot's mother, her voice was soothing and full of warmth as she mewed, " WIth this life, I give you justice. Use it well to judge others by their own actions. " Her eyes flickered at him sternly, and Heavyfoot remembered how her brother had been ambitous and nearly killed the deputy. Heavyfoot then touched noses with her and watched her leave, feeling the pain shoot through him like a needle.
A kit moved in to take his mother's place, it was a small dark tortoiseshell, with pale yellow eyes. Brightkit, his sister. The kit mewed quietly, " With this life I give you loyalty to what you know to be right. Use it well to guide your Clan in times of trouble. She had died with her brother, Blackkit, in a time of trouble, when loners had attacked the clan. Another bolt of pain swished through him, though it wasn't as bad as before. It was like all of the loyalty of every cat in Starclan running through him at the same time.
A small black kit came up beside Brightkit, his fur shining with stars as he reached up to touch his nose to Heavyfoot's, it was his brother, Blackkit."With this life I give you tireless energy. Use it well to carry out the duties of a leader."
Heavyfoot felt as if he was racing through the forest, his leg muscles pumping and his head held up high. It was endless energy, as he had been given.
Shimmering blue eyes caught his eyes as a frosty white she-cat sat in front of him, it was the she-cat who had loved, Snowears, who was deaf. " With this life I give you protection. Use it well to care for you Clan as a mother cares for her kits. " She affectionatley touched her nose to his. Heavyfoot didn't expect the feriocity that pierced sharply through him, this was the love a she-cat would feel to protect her kits, and to love them. She sighed and gazed at him lovingly, "I wish I had had your kits Heavyfoot, they would have been the best warriors you'd have ever had, they would have followed you into Twilightclan."
She moved back and vanished into the starry pelts.
A brown tabby tom padded over to him, reaching forward to touch noses with him. It was his mentor, Brownstorm. "With this life I give you mentoring. Use it well to train the young cats of your Clan." Yet another bolt of pain shot through him, but he was ready for it, his muscles tense and his claws digging into the ground, or the sky-ground.
A silver and grey she-cat he didn't know stood in front of him and gazed at Heavyfoot. He wanted to ask who she was but kept his mouth shut tight. " With this life I give you compassion. Use it well for the elders of you Clan, and the sick, and all those weaker than yourself. She mewed gently before touching noses with him. Another bolt slashed him like a claw, sending ripples across his now-ruffled fur.
An elderly tom then stepped forward, his deep amber eyes resting on Heavyfoot." With this life I give you love. Use it well for all the cats in your care—especially for Snowears, so you can meet her again once you come to Starclan again. SLight pain hit Heavyfoot but love soon struck him and he let the warmth trickle through him.
A grey she-cat then stepped forward, starlight turning the cat's grey fur to pure white. " With this life I give you nobility and certainty and faith. Use it well as you lead your Clan in the ways of StarClan and the warrior code. " She touched her nose to Heavyfoot's and pain clawed him like a badger's claws and fangs. He let out a silent wail and then gazed forward at the cat croaking quietly, " Who are you? And who were the cats who gave me my 7th and 8th lives? "
The leader-like she-cat gazed at him and mewed clearly, in an ancient voice, " I am Wolfstar, leader of Willowclan. Mistcloud, the last deputy of WIllowclan, gave you your 7th live, Rushingfoot gave you your 8th. I joined my clan into Duskclan many generations ago. You are ancestors of Willowclan cats. You are Twilightclan, the third clan of the four. There was once Fireclan, Iceclan,Willowclan, and Boulderclan. Willowclan and Boulderclan were made into Duskclan while Iceclan and Fireclan were made into Dawnclan. You have split apart to make another clan, you were once Willowclan, but are now Twilightclan. "
Heavyfoot gazed in awe at the she-cat but couldn't say anything. Wolfstar then quickly said, " Now I hail you by your new name. Heavystar! The new leader of Twilightclan! " The crowd broke into a chorus of ringing voices, happiness caterwauling across the clearing.
Heavystar proudly lifted his head high before the stars and voices faded and he woke up to see his nose pressed up against the cold stone. Sunlight shined against the stone and he gazed at Brushleaf as she awoke to the light. " Come then, lets go back to Twilightclan. " Brushleaf dipped his head and nodded to him before he followed her out of the cavern and all the way back to camp.
